Sleek Makeup Vs Makeup Revolution – Highlight and Contour Kits!

Lately, you can’t even talk about makeup without mentioning contouring and highlighting andit seems like everyone is lookingfor the perfect contour kit. Forget looking like Kim Kardashian, I don’t have time to be doing her routine, so I opt for a powder kit. They give you exactly the same results but without all the time and effort. In this post, it’s Sleek Makeup Vs Makeup Revolution as I compare my usual highlight and contour kit with one that is less than half the price!!

Sleek Make up Face Form Contouring and Blush Palette, LIGHT 372 – Superdrug £9.99

The Plus Size of Life Sleek Makeup Contour Kit emma ellis plus size blogger plus size

I discovered sleek one day whilst browsing the Makeup aisle in Superdrug, and this was one of the first contour kits I had seen available to purchase in a shop on the high street. It has a lovely sleek, black matte finish to the casing and it looks incredibly professional. Inside there is an ample sized mirror, making it ideal for carrying around. There are three products within; a brown Contour powder, a pearl Highlighting powder and a lovely pink Blush also in a shimmer finish.

The contour powder is just the right shade for me, I do wear very light foundation so I don’t want anything too dark. It’s is so easy to apply and is extremely versatile, it blends really well and I can use it to contour all the parts of my face that I need to. The blusher is a great shade for me when used sparingly. It has some lovely gold tones in there as well which make it perfect for when you really want to make your cheeks stand out. I do tend to wear this everyday but sometimes i opt for a lighter shade of pink for daytime. One of the only major downside for me is that the highlighter is very pearlised and, if not used sparingly, it is extremely noticeable on your face. To me it isn’t suitable for day to day use. I have to use a really light face powder instead, but I do use it to highlight when I’m going out.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Sculpt and Contour Kit Ultra Fair C01 – £3.50 Makeup Revolution Store

New The Plus Size of Life Makeup Revolution Contour Kit

My local Superdrug does not stock Makeup Revolution’s products and ordering online can sometimes be a pain because I always seem to choose the wrong colour of whatever it is I’m buying and get it so wrong! So when I nipped into superdrug at Leeds White rose the other week and saw they stocked them, I went a little bit crazy (more posts to come hehe!) I saw this palette and I knew I had to buy it. For me, it brings everything the sleek palette has and then cancels out the negatives to give me my ultimate contour kit. at half the price! The brown contour powder is virtually the same colour and works just as effectively. The blusher in this one is a lighter shade and after comparing the two i feel like it matches my skin tone so much better, meaning it is suitable for everyday wear. The real plus point on this one is that the highlighting powder is much better, it is still pearlised, but not to the same extent the sleek one is, making it less noticeable on your face. I have only been using this for about a month, but I am so impressed by the quality.

Overall, I love both products, but in the end it comes down to price, when you can find something that gives you everything you want at half the price, that is surely going to be a winner? I feel that with sleek you are paying for much higher end packaging compared to the Makeup Revolution and to be honest, when they come at such an amazing price, do you really care when you’re applying it to your face, it’s not like you’ve bought something to sit and look at.

Sorry Sleek, but I think I have found a new fave!!!! Makeup Revolution, I salute you on another fantastic product!

MUA Primers – Review

Until recently, I had only ever used the eyeshadow palettes by Makeup Academy. The other week all make up was on 3 for 2 at Superdrug and I was looking for a cheap and reliable primer that wouldn’t break the bank! So I bought three MUA Primers to try, here I discuss with you what I thought about them!

the plus size of life MUA Primers 2

1. MUA Pro-Base Eye Primer – £2.50 Superdrug

This eye primer is amazing. I wanted something that I could apply lightly to my eyelids under my eyeshadow to make it pop without having to be too heavy with my concealer, and it does the job! It is a lightweight formulation that is totally buildable and it doesn’t crease giving me the perfect base for all sorts of different eyeshadow. Well worth the price!

2. MUA Pro-Base Primer – £4.00

I was a little disappointed with this one, it was a little watery for my liking. I like to feel a primer and this one just feels like an extremely light moisturiser. I don’t think it made a difference to my foundation in terms filling in the lines on my face making me look flawless  but I feel like as it dries to a lovely matte finish, it helped to combat some of the oil I normally have to blot throughout the day. I won’t be buying it again, but if you want something light this primer this is definitely one for you!

3. MUA Undress Your Skin Flawless Primer -£5.00 Superdrug

This is my favourite of all three. It’s a clear liquid, thicker than the Pro Base Primer and it leaves your skin velvety smooth. I’m using it everyday at the moment, applying it after my mattifying moisturiser. With this my foundation does look flawless because it helps to fill in all my imperfections. I find that when I wear this, the oil that has sometimes come back to haunt me throughout the day is nowhere near as bad as when I don’t use this primer. It’s great value for money and a little bit goes a long way. I mainly apply this to my chin, nose and forehead wiping any leftover product around the rest of my face!

Have you tried any primers from MUA? Can you recommend any other products by them for me to try?

Winter Lip Care

My lips always become cracked and sometimes sore over the autumn and winter months. I can never seem to prevent it, despite using lip moisturising products throughout the whole year! When your lips are dry, not only does it look awful when you’re wearing lipstick, they can become incredibly sore.
Today I thought I’d share with you three of my favourite lip care products that I use to help stop my lips becoming too dry and cracked throughout the winter season.

Vaseline Lip Therapy Cocoa Butter – £1.99, Superdrug

10116399A staple in my handbag all year round, if you’re suffering from dry lips, this is an absolute must product for you. The one is enriched with caring cocoa butter and has intense nourishing properties which help to soothe and soften your lips. I love to use this on a night before I go to sleep so I wake up with lovely soft lips. It is versatile as well, it has about a million uses. I use it on burns, scars and for my eyebrows when they have been plucked, it just gives you that extra bit of TLC.

Shea Butter Lip Butter -£4, The Body Shop shea-lip-butter_lI have been a fan of The Body Shop’s lip butters since I was a teenager. Not only do they all smell amazing, they last freaking ages! I received this last Christmas in a gift set and I was instantly hooked. It smells amazing for one and the Shea Butter is a gentle and effective moisturiser which makes it perfect for your lips when they are suffering! Last time I used this, my lips had completely healed by the end of the day! It is buttery in texture and isn’t for everyone, but it works!

Palmers Dark Chocolate and Peppermint Lip Butter  – £2.99, Superdrug

This stuff is incredible! Again with Cocoa Butter and packed with Vitamin E It has a totally different texture to The Body Shop lip butter and is my go to product when I’m going out and I can’t wear lipstick. It’s clear in colour and the texture is glossier, giving it a glam feel. It smells insane, just like After Eight mints, which, let’s face it is a full on win! You can feel it working when you wear it; the mint leaves an ever so subtle tingle on the lips and it’s so scrummy you just want to eat it. The package says you can use it under lipstick too, but personally I haven’t tried this as I’m not sure how my lipstick would sit on such a glossy surface. Palmers do a dark chocolate and cherry tinted balm which I am also dying to try!!

What are your favourite lip products for autumn/winter? How do you keep your lips looking perfect?

I’ve been doing this for a year!

So as the title suggests, I have been doing this for a year! I thought I would share some thoughts with you about my journey so far!

When I started this blog, I was in the first stages of my journey to loving myself. I had seen other women empowering others to love their bodies online, it was amazing to see and all new to me but I wanted to be a part of it. Although I’ve had some irregular posting patterns for various reasons, I can say that this blog has 100% helped me to accept who I am and the body I have. Before I started this blog, I would never have posted a full length photo of myself online and expected to get positive comments.

I wasn’t always fat. I grew up a bit chubby, but lost a lot of weight when I went to university, I wasn’t happy or healthy back then. I lived off rubbish food and went out pretty much every night drinking, being reckless and finding myself in some pretty dangerous situations. Compared to now where I actually eat three healthy meals a day and exercise, where I’m happy with myself and who I am. The sad thing is really that back then no one would have judged me on my appearance. If I was sat at a cafe eating cake with my thin best friend back then no one would have batted an eyelid. This has been one of the hardest things to get used to for me, knowing how damaging I was to my physical and mental health back then, but people have the right to look at me now and judge me on my weight?

My body is incredible and it never holds me back. I’ve been to Thailand, no one laughed at me in my swim wear. I snorkeled for the first time in beautiful, clear water and saw some amazing things. I’ve been to theme parks with my daughter and overcome my fear of fitting in the seats of the rides and being embarrassed. The best thing for me though is that I no longer walk down the street and wonder if people are judging me on how I look, I walk down the street with my head held high!

I still find it hard to find clothes in the style I want to wear, but the change is happening! So many new plus size lines have been released in the last year, brands are actually recognising that plus size women don’t want to wear frumpy, unflattering plain clothes. They want fashion and they want it now!

This coming year, I hope that I can overcome some of my anxieties about getting involved with other bloggers and chats on Twitter. I hope I can even pluck up the courage to go to some events and meet the awesome women behind the blogs I read every day!

Its been a great year, and even though this blog is just a tiny drop in a huge ocean, I hope I have inspired some of you to love the skin you’re in!

Getting my blogging MOJO back!

Hello, you may have noticed or not, that it has been a while since I wrote anything for my blog.

The truth is I haven’t really felt like it for a while! I have been extremely busy getting used to my new job and trying to fit into the team. When I get home on an evening, all I want to do is relax and on my weekends I have been enjoying spending time with my family! Working in any job relating to Education in the run up to and throughout September is difficult, so I think that has been the reason I’ve not even wanted to look at my blog!

I’m hoping that slowly this month I will get back into it and hopefully be able to blog a lot more, I just need to get on top of my planning!

I struggle with twitter! Suffering from anxiety means that I sometimes find it really hard to interact with others. I often want to get involved with the chats that other bloggers are having and make friends, but my anxiety means that I worry intensely about what other people may think of me. This often comes across as rudeness or arrogance, but it’s not that, i’m just too shy to involve myself sometimes.

When I started this blog, I wanted to push myself to put myself out there, I am incredibly proud of how far I have come personally from doing this. I’ve accepted who I am and I am comfortable in my own skin. Now I just need to try and overcome a few more of my anxieties and involve myself a little more. I hope that next year I will be able to pluck up the courage to attend events that I see all the other bloggers attending and finally meet some of the fantastic and inspiring women I follow every day!

I’ve still been trying to keep up with everything, I’ve seen so many amazing things! The Curve Fashion Festival looked fab, the #thisisplus campaign has taken off and there’s the creation of the Curvee awards by three amazing women in the plus size community! Things like this are so important and continue to inspire me!

Hopefully I will be back with some posts soon!

Garnier Moisture Restore+ night cream

I haven’t had much experience with night creams. I don’t think I have ever really needed one and the only time I have ever used one,  I really didnt notice a difference with my skin.

I went to Boots to pick up my usual skincare products as I was running out of literally everything and saw they had plenty of offers on Garnier skin care. My usual cleanser and toner were two for £4 and then all Garnier moisturiser was half price. I picked up my usual daily moisturiser and I saw this Garnier Moisture Restore + Night Cream and at only £1.99 I decided to give it a try.

20150619_204101I have used this the past week, I am completely hooked!
