Welcome to the first instalment of beauty buy of the month at The Plus Size of Life! I know I said this post would originally hit the blog on Friday, I couldn’t wait any longer! This new monthly feature is all about that one beauty product I have bought that I cannot get enough of! This month, it’s the Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask!
I’ve made no secret on the blog about my struggle with my terrible oily skin. Day to day, I only use oil free moisturiser and makeup so as to not add to the problem. I literally go out of my way everyday to avoid adding excess moisture to my skin, to use products that diffuse the oil and to make my skin as matte as it can be to make my makeup last! The trouble with that is that at least once a month, I notice patches of my skin that are dry and flaky because there literally is no moisture left in my skin.
When this happens, it can be so frustrating because it’s hard to find the perfect balance, to get rid of the dry and flaky without adding to the problem of the oil! I was researching intensive moisture treatments to help me and came across the Garnier Moisture Bomb Tissue Mask!
Having any form of oily skin is usually a complete nightmare when you want to wear make up, mine certainly never used to last! I consider myself to have combination skin as it is extremely sensitive and dry in parts, but in others it is incredibly oily.
Getting make up to stay on my face was becoming an intense struggle and I looked a mess only two or three hours after applying make up! So after the long hard struggle of constantly trying different products and changing up my beauty routine, I have found products that actually help to combat my oily skin problem! Here are four of my must haves!
1.Garnier Oily Skin Clarifying Wash – £3.29 Boots – This is a great wash for the morning. After use, there is no shine left on my face and you can feel the mattifying effecting it has as it dries. I also use this after removing my make up in the evening
2. Garnier Moisture Match Matte Moisturiser – £4.19 Boots – Another fab product, this oil free moisturiser compliments the face wash and because it is oil free does not leave any greasy nasty residue. It provides great hydration without adding to my problem areas.
3. Tea Tree and Witch Hazel Facial Mask with Active Charcoal – £3.59 Boots – Im in love with this mask! This mask contains active charcoal, which helps to keep skin clean and healthy by removing dirt, sebum and impurities. It also gets rid of oil leaving my skin shine free! I use this about once a week, or before I put my make up on when going on a night out to keep myself from becoming an oily mess!! I love that its got tea tree and witch hazel, meaning its also extremely kind to the sensitive skin on my face too. Boots have a few different products in this range which i’m keen to try as well.
4. Mac Blot Film – £12.00 Mac online – Does exactly what it says on the tin, perfect to have in your handbag to remove excess oil. This differs from other blotting products I have used as it’s a film and not a paper and it has become my favourite for this reason. It can be pretty disgusting to see how much oil I have accumulated on my skin during the day, this helps to refresh my make up without necessarily having to apply more powder and make myself look cakey!
Getting used to oily skin was hard, but knowing your own skin and knowing which products can help will be a great start getting your confidence back in your beauty regime!

If you regularly read my blog, you will no doubt know that I am obsessed with budget beauty buys, showing that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get products that leave you feeling amazing. In this addition to my Beauty on a Budget posts, I share with you my pound picks!
I thought I would set myself a little task. I took out £15, and went to three high street pound shops to see what I could get for my money and I am pretty pleased with myself!
Macadamia Oil Extract hair treatment
Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm
Rimmel London Nail Polish in Lemon Drop
Garnier Skin Naturals Pimple Relief Roll on
Garnier Skin Naturals Oil Control Complete
Original Source Coconut Shower Gel
Impulse Into Glamour
Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo
Herbal Essences Bee Strong Conditioner
Sally Hansen Diamond Strength in Fuschia Bling Bling
Sally Hansen Insta Dry in Pronto Purple
Montagne Jeunesse Face Pack x2
In total on all the products I spent £12.96! A quick scout around other stores showed that I could have paid near to £40 for all these products!! It’s amazing what brands you can find when you have a little snoop in the pound shops. Some lines have been discontinued, but who cares, you may find something you have been missing for a few years. I have even spotted some Calvin Klein make up floating around before. I have to mention again though not all of them stock the same thing, so you may not get exactly what I have but it is definitely worth having a good old snoop!
Some of the things I bought, I have never used before so I am looking forward to trying those out and letting you know how they are.

I haven’t had much experience with night creams. I don’t think I have ever really needed one and the only time I have ever used one, I really didnt notice a difference with my skin.
I went to Boots to pick up my usual skincare products as I was running out of literally everything and saw they had plenty of offers on Garnier skin care. My usual cleanser and toner were two for £4 and then all Garnier moisturiser was half price. I picked up my usual daily moisturiser and I saw this Garnier Moisture Restore + Night Cream and at only £1.99 I decided to give it a try.
I have used this the past week, I am completely hooked!
I have tried several different types of skin care routine in the past but nothing has stuck with me. My most recent routine however is one that is definitely going to stay.
I have been blinded by price, in the past, believing that skin care has to cost a bomb to be effective, in this post I am aiming to show you that this is not the case. I have used everything from Clinique to REN and I haven’t had anywhere near the results I get with my current routine. My skin has never felt so fresh and soft, as well as hydrated. Here are the products I am currently using:
Morning facial wash
When I wake up in the morning, I wash my face with an exfoliating facial scrub. The one I use is from Superdrug and it is one from their own brand of Tea Tree Skincare products.
Tea Tree Skincare Exfoliating Cream Wash – £3.29 Superdrug
Tea tree oil is known for its antibacterial properties and is a great way to wake your skin up in the morning after a long nights sleep. It also helps fight against pesky breakouts and contains walnut shell granules to help soften the skin. This product also cleanses skin so I use it for that purpose in the mornings as well.
Gone are the days as a teenager where you would put a dab of toothpaste on a spot at night to help it clear by the morning (as if I used to do that *cringe*) Every now and again I do suffer from a breakout. Its annoying as I take every step to ensure my skin is clean and fresh to avoid them. When I do get a pesky little spot, I like to use a quick fix solution to stop the redness and ensure that no one can see it! I use a spot stick, which again is from Tea Tree Skincare by Superdrug, its called the Action Spot Stick
Tea Tree Skincare Action Spot Stick – £3.29 Superdrug
A thin layer of this relieves any soreness and also works to reduce redness leaving me feeling confident I can leave the house!! Plus it contains tea tree and we know how good that is for spots on the face.
Cleanser, Toner and Moisturiser
Growing up my mum used to lecture me about how important it was to Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise, now I am older I wish I had listened and started doing it in my teens as I feel I have ruined my skin by wearing make up as a teen and not protecting my it properly. But, better late than never.
