Making our family bored jar

I love Pinterest and when I was browsing the other day I saw something called a bored jar. Basically you write down lots of little activities and when the kids are bored, they pick out an activity and it will help them cure their boredom! With the summer holidays coming up, I thought this would be a great idea for Maisie so I decided to give it a go and make our very own bored jar.

To make this, you only need a few little bits:

  • A Kilner Jar or similar
  • Coloured Card or paper
  • Scissors
  • A Pen

I LOVE this book of card sheets that I got from The Range, they have so many different ones in different sizes, but I chose the large Chasing Rainbows one. They are so handy to have, especially if you are into crafting, they even have iridescent paper in them!

To actually make the bored jar it’s so simple. You cut out small strips of card and then write on different activities. You can look online for these, some examples include small household chores, exercise activities and art projects. I also included some writing activities and learning stuff too! I wrote these on the orange cards and folded them up to add to the jar.

Next I cut some strips of white spotted card. I used these for activities to pick out for the whole family to do, such as board games, Fifa tournaments or going for a walk.

Then I just added them to the jar and created a label for the front. Our bored jar now has pride of place on the bookshelf in our living room and Maisie was already asking to do things from it today, so I think it’s safe to say it is a big hit.

I will add more activities as we run low and also as the seasons change.

What do you think of our bored jar? What types of activities would you add to yours?
