Primark PS Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon Review!

If you know me, or regularly read my blog, you know that I love finding great bargain Make Up products, so when I saw the Primark PS Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon, I had to give them a try at £2 a go!

Primark PS Velvet Matte Lipstick Crayon Lid On - The Plus Size of Life - Emma Ellis

For a long time, I avoided the Primark beauty section. It never really had anything to offer – mostly items you would give to your kid sister for Christmas so that she could pretend to be a princess – not anymore!! I know alot of bloggers and vloggers have been raving about this new range which is constantly expanding!

Beauty Battle – My fave MAC Dupes!

Like most people into makeup, I fell in love with MAC. I adore so many of their products, but being on a strict budget sometimes means that I cannot afford to spend too much on the makeup I wear everyday. I’ve tried so many products to compile this post and bring you my fave MAC Dupes!

fave Mac Dupes Powder - The Plus Size of Life - Emma Ellis

Powder for me is something that I struggle with. Having oily skin means that I cant wear anything too heavy, so this translucent powder from MAC is so perfect because it’s so lightweight. I love that this is so translucent so it doesn’t add any extra colour to your face when setting your foundation.

Collection 2000 Review – Hit or Miss?

I haven’t done anything remotely related to beauty on a budget for a while now and since I have been into buying Collection 2000 lately,  a super affordable line with a great range of products to choose from, I thought i’d do a Collection 2000 review and share my thoughts on a few of the different items I have and whether I think they are a hit or a miss!

Primed and Ready Illuminating and Reviving Eye Primer – £3.99 – Boots  – Not really anything special, a bit watery for me. It did illuminate as there is a pearlised colour to it but to be honest my eye make up did not look any different – Miss

Primed and Ready Mattifying Pore Minimiser – £3.99 – Boots – A great primer! It contains which hazel, which is a natural antibacterial ingredient to help keep spots at bay. Not fantastic at minimizing pores but a great mattifying product none the less – Hit

Makeup Revolution Ultra Brow Palette

I haven’t had much experience with Makeup Revolution, I have their Iconic 1, 2 and 3 Palettes and their Golden Sugar Blush palette but I didn’t know until very recently they have added so many more products to their line!

As someone who is new to defining my brows and using brow products, I started out using the Sleek Makeup Eyebrow kit- £8.50. It is a great one for beginners and contains a pigmented wax, a setting powder and all the necessary tools for perfect brows every time. It is however starting to run out. On a recent shopping trip, I was thrilled to see that Superdrug had a Makeup Revolution stand and also stocked their sister products (I may have gone slightly crazy and bought lots, meaning a few more reviews coming soon) So instead of making my usual purchase, I bought the Makeup Revolution Ultra Brow Palette in Medium to dark -£7.99

To be honest, the price is bloody fantastic for all the products you get, compared to the Sleek Kit, where you get two.

In this kit you get:

  • Mini Tweezers
  • 2  Brow Brushes
  • Eyebrow Pencil
  • Highlighter
  • Eyebrow Arch Enhancing Cream
  • 2 Shades Tinted Brow Wax
  • 4 Shades Blendable Eyebrow Powder

Beauty on a Budget – Pound Picks!

If you regularly read my blog, you will no doubt know that I am obsessed with budget beauty buys, showing that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get products that leave you feeling amazing. In this addition to my Beauty on a Budget posts, I share with you my pound picks!

I thought I would set myself a little task. I took out £15, and went to three high street pound shops to see what I could get for my money and I am pretty pleased with myself!

Pound World

Macadamia Oil Extract hair treatment
Nivea Soft Rose Lip Balm
Rimmel London Nail Polish in Lemon Drop
Garnier Skin Naturals Pimple Relief Roll on

99p Stores

Garnier Skin Naturals Oil Control Complete
Original Source Coconut Shower Gel
Impulse Tease
Impulse Into Glamour

Pound Land

Herbal Essences Bee Strong Shampoo
Herbal Essences Bee Strong Conditioner
Sally Hansen Diamond Strength in Fuschia Bling Bling
Sally Hansen Insta Dry in Pronto Purple
Montagne Jeunesse Face Pack x2

In total on all the products I spent £12.96! A quick scout around other stores showed that I could have paid near to £40 for all these products!!  It’s amazing what brands you can find when you have a little snoop in the pound shops. Some lines have been discontinued, but who cares, you may find something you have been missing for a few years. I have even spotted some Calvin Klein make up floating around before. I have to mention again though not all of them stock the same thing, so you may not get exactly what I have but it is definitely worth having a good old snoop!

Some of the things I bought, I have never used before so I am looking forward to trying those out and letting you know how they are.

Do you get any beauty products from the Pound shops? What are your best buys?

Beauty on a Budget 5 – Make Up Gallery Nail Polish

I have already raved about the lipstick I previously picked up at Poundland here! Now its time to talk about the nail polish and I am as equally impressed!

I love having my nails done, but I also love doing them myself. I haven’t had acrylics done since coming back from Thailand in December, as my nails were in pretty bad shape plus it can also get quite expensive, as you have to have them redone so often.

Luckily I discovered this polish and at £1 a go it won’t break the bank. I started off with just one to try and now I have built up quite a collection.

These polishes come in a fab range of colours including pastels, metallics, brights and glitters.

Garnier Moisture Restore+ night cream

I haven’t had much experience with night creams. I don’t think I have ever really needed one and the only time I have ever used one,  I really didnt notice a difference with my skin.

I went to Boots to pick up my usual skincare products as I was running out of literally everything and saw they had plenty of offers on Garnier skin care. My usual cleanser and toner were two for £4 and then all Garnier moisturiser was half price. I picked up my usual daily moisturiser and I saw this Garnier Moisture Restore + Night Cream and at only £1.99 I decided to give it a try.

20150619_204101I have used this the past week, I am completely hooked!

Beauty on a Budget 4 – Intensive Hair Masks

I love a good hair mask!

I love nothing better than the silky feeling after a hot oil or a deep conditioning treatment, but I have learned over the years that you don’t need to spend a fortune to get great results!

I tend to use these intensive masks about once a week in the summer months, as my hair can become really dry!

Here are my favourite budget buys!!!

Dove Heat Therapy Self Warming Mask – £3.50 (Boots) or £1.00 (Pound World)

This stuff is amazing! There are two parts to this mask, the first is like a conditioner which comes in a sachet. It smells lovely and you apply this after shampooing all over your hair. The next, is a serum, this is the heat activating part and you add this onto the hair with the mask applied. Once you have done this you will feel it heat up immediately, its a strange feeling but this mask really does work. You leave it on for three minutes then wash it off.

It left my hair feeling silky smooth and glossy. It felt stronger and more hydrated. I pick these up when I can in the pound shop, as they are not always available. I took several of them to Thailand with us to keep my hair from becoming too dry in the heat.

Macadmaia Oil Extract Hair Mask – £1.00 (Pound World)

I actually adore this Macadamia oil hair mask, and at £1.00 it really is one of my top beauty bargains.  I was initially a bit sceptical, as I normally pay over 4 times the price for similar products on the high street. On the label it says to wash hair as normal, then towel dry and apply the mask, leaving on the hair for 7-10 minutes. This is longer than any of the other products I use but I can tell you that it is worth the wait! My hair was so silky, smooth and healthy looking, It has now replaced the Keratin smooth Deep Treatment Mask I was using by Tresemme, which was £5.50 for the same amount!

argan-shine-niisutav-juuksemask-150-ml Mellor and Russell Argan Shine Hair Repair Mask – £1.00 (Pound Land)

Finally, this Argan Shine mask is again from the pound shop! To be honest I was not as impressed by this as I was with the other products I have mentioned. It was more like a conditioner to me as opposed to a deep treatment. It did not make my hair feel any different to if I had just washed and conditioned it using my normal products. I don’t think I will be buying it again, but you never know it could work for you.

I think that shopping around is key when looking for hair products in bargain stores. I tend to see branded products from time to time, like the Dove one above and today I saw a Pantene Mask in one of them. Sometimes I go back for something, and they don’t have any but will have it back about three weeks later, so as long as you buy it when you see it, you will never be without those bargain products you love!

Do you use these masks? Which products can you not live without for your hair?
